Hi,
This is personal. And it’s from me to you. I’m thinking of the ‘400’ of you who read me, without knowing who or what brought me to this moment, this place.
I levelled three questions at myself tonight, not caring if this is an appropriate posting time, or not, because I’m in a you and me moment.
Who am I? Where did I come from? Where am I going?
But maybe it’s often more like: Who was I? What have I become? What the fuck do I think I’m doing?
There are a lot of young writers on Substack, and I love you all. Nevertheless, I confess to being a rebel boomer, a hostage to his own rabbit-hole, and marooned in a zone few time machines can reach.
I want to say all this, because if I haven’t been writing weird sh1t, (comes naturally), I’ve been hitting you with 25 chapters of Afrofuturistic myth and legend for six months without ever coming up for air. (Yes, I have to watch myself or I find I’m writing run-on sentences that can stretch for decades.)
I acknowledge that Chronicles of Xanctu is a dense and complex story, a real ‘Space Opera’, that has been evolving since… since… I dropped out of being a CEO and Director of Companies in 1974-1990, to belatedly pursue a path that should’ve started with me writing short stories, as John Shirley advised me to. How I met him, and other greats of various spheres that I orbited at the time, is all described in my book, ‘Journey to Everywhere’, a gonzo-autobiography that unashamedly unmasks me.
Now I’ve never really mentioned this before because one of the delights of writing, as you may know, is OBSESSION, but for the last six months, on Substack, I was actually motivated by you to begin obsessively welding my original archive material with what it has evolved to.
Yes, I published JTE back in 2012, republished it in 2018. You can read it on Amazon here, but that is not why I’m writing this. I’m writing this because I can really feel the interest in the written word, here, at these coordinates. And in fact it sometimes feels like this Substack space may be somewhere in the global mind that creativity grows beyond the boundaries of the Disney box.
Certainly, it’s working for me. And I have seen every platform that ever existed because I am an ancient voice, and also a memory, from beneath your TCP/IP stack.
I regret the ‘lost files’, and understand that you like to read. That in itself gladdens me. Finishing the first book in the trilogy of this thirty-year legend is viscerally exciting at the moment, but I dropped out to write you this thank you for being a mythbearer, and a part of the Global Mind that values integrity and uniqueness.
I made a 7 minute movie as a ‘gateway’ to the book/TV series, which is in UHD with great sound, but writing this to you is the way!
Gratitude out there!
Warmest
Schwann
J to E is a memorable and seriously fun gonzoidal plunge!
